Basic Concept of Didactics and their significance for Religious Education

This course has as its primary aim to familiarize the students with the basic principles underlying the Teaching Science (Didactics). At the same time, the course is related to research methods used in the afore-mentioned scientific area. Additionally, different ways of thinking are being highlighted, on which scientific conclusions of the Teaching Science can be applied to educational practice of teaching Religious Education. Specifically, the course analyzes the following topics:
- The development of Didactics in Europe und USA – descriptive and historical approach
- Terminology in Didactics
- Instructional Theories, Instructional Design Theories, Didaktische Theorien and their philosophical context Theories
- Teaching Models
- Learning Strategies and Learning Competencies
- The terminological distinction among the terms Declarative Knowledge, Factual Knowledge, Conceptual Knowledge, Procedural Knowledge
- Didaktische Analyse (Wolfgang Klafki)
- Taxonomies of learning objectives (Bloom, Krathwohl, Gagné, Matsaggouras, SOLO Taxonomy)
- Reframing School Knowledge – Elementarisierung
- Geometric Didactical Analysis
- The scientific area of “Didactics for Religious Education”
- Instructional Design, Instructional Theory and Didactics for Religious Education
- Learning Theories and Didactics for Religious Education

The main objective of this course is the critical approach of certain concerns and scientific results presented in the field of School Pedagogy, regarding current issues of the educational reality. In addition, there is an extensive reference to the position and the role of Religious Education as a functional part of the school life. In particular, the following topics are being considered:
